Tomás' Birthday! 25 things on the 25th

So... this year Tomás turned 25, and since his birthday was on the 25th of February, it's his GOLDEN birthday! You only get a golden birthday once, so I wanted to make it special. I've thrown him a party already, and we've done the whole, go out to eat and watch a movie together type of birthday, so I wanted to make this one extra special for him. I decided that we would do 25 different things on his 25th birthday. I had the whole day planned out. (And it really was the WHOLE day... 25 things is kind of a lot!) I have heard of a lady who did something similar to this on her birthday, but it was all random acts of kindness, which by the way, is really awesome. I thought we would do a mix of both service and fun things, just to make it a little more interesting.

For the most part, it was a surprise. I had told one of his friends about my idea beforehand, and he kind of mentioned that I had the whole day planned while we were all together at band practice. Tomás looked over at me with raised eyebrows, "...the WHOLE day?" That's when the beans were kind of spilled. He didn't think much of it, but I ended up telling him what I had planned a few days later. I didn't include any details; I just told him we would be doing 25 different things.

Anyway, the day was a success (but longer than I had expected, whew!). We were both pretty worn out by the end. But, he felt special, and that was the point, so I'm glad it worked out that way. I might add, though, that the weather was TERRIBLE! It was freezing and very windy, which kind of slammed a few of the outdoor activities I had planned. I wanted to go on a walk in a park, and feed the ducks at a pond. Let's just say I had to improvise and do something else! Well, with no further ado, here's the list of the 25 different things we did on his 25th birthday on the 25th of February! And, in the order we did them with pictures too, of course. Enjoy!

1. Go out to breakfast at iHop. (7:00am!)

2. Open his birthday present. (which had just arrived by mail the night before, so it worked out PERFECT.) It's a Fender hard case for his Telecaster—the vintage tweed style... how he likes it!

3. Write a letter to his brother Jared, and send it off! He's on a mission in Cambodia right now.

4. Leave a bag of kisses on our neighbor's front doorstep.

5. Sing a song together.

6. Round up runaway carts at the grocery store.

7. Leave 50 cents at a pay phone.

8. Insert a dollar into a soda machine and leave it for someone.

9. Donate clothes to D.I.

10. Buy something at D.I. He ended up getting a few ties, and I snagged a skirt while we were there too.  :)

11. Call his parents.

12. Buy one thing at a music store. (His candy store, basically.) He got some new drum sticks.

13.Visit and tour the Train Depot Museum in downtown Nampa. This place was pretty neat! We had fun.

14. Take a break, and eat lunch at Subway!

15. Attend Michelle's Baptism. Tomás and I are both ward missionaries, so we were really excited about this girl's baptism that just happened to be scheduled on Tomás' birthday. Tomás got to go on splits once with the full time missionaries and teach her. It was such a wonderful experience. She even insisted that we play a little piano duet just after the ordinance while she was changing, and wanted one of the refreshment cakes to have his name written on it. She's a really sweet girl.

16. Buy goodies and drinks at WinCo to bring to a movie! I know this is probably wrong, but we always do it. Movie theatre food is soooooooooo expensive.

17. Go see Tintin in 3D! We loved it.

18. Buy one thing at the dollar store for each other. I got him some books he was eyeing, and he got me some much needed socks! Yay!

19. Get a new pair of pants. (He needs them.. bad!) We found these at Ross.

20. Ding dong ditch some treats at a random house.

21. Leave a dollar somewhere. I thought the dollar store would be the perfect place!

22. Slow dance to our wedding song—the Scientist by Coldplay— in candlelight.

23. Make a homemade pizza together for dinner.

24. Eat some icecream cake! Since I work at Dairy Queen, I just had to order one of these! It was a Heath Blizzard Cake. MMmmm... Although, the blue died our lips pretty bad.

25. Watch a movie together on his laptop.

And... that's all folks! Hope you enjoyed reading and seeing the adventure we had on his birthday! It was a lot of fun, and was sure memorable. Let us know what you thought! :)

The Band

So.... some of you may know, but Tomás and I started up a band! (Mostly him....haha) Our friend Jason Dodge plays the drums, and Dave Parker from our ward plays Bass, while Jessica Prindle (Tomás' cousin) plays keyboard. Tomás sings lead and plays guitar while I sing back up. It's fun!

Here's some shots from out latest band practice.

We may have a gig coming up here in the near future hopefully... so if you live in the Nampa area, keep an ear out! Music is a huge passion of Tomás' and he writes all the songs. It just comes easily to him. It's definitely a gift!

As far as the house we were hoping to get... we're still in yellow light mode. The loan people need some more information before it can be approved, and set to close. If everything works out as planned, we'll be closing around the end of this month. We'll see what happens! There's just a little update for you.

14 Days of Valentines: 13&14!

On the 13th, I decided to think of 12 memories from the last year, and 1 memory from this year that I enjoyed with him, and compile it. We did a lot of fun things last year, and had some great times. I hid it in his school bag among his books, hoping he would find it in the middle of his day, giving his some relief from his busy, and stressful day at work. :)

On Valentine's Day, Tomás and I attended our ward Valentine's dinner, which turned out very nice! We had a great time, and afterwards came back to our apartment to watch The Notebook. I got Tomás a gift card for a one hour massage at Massage Envy in town. He needs something like that really bad. He's always getting tense in his back and shoulders, so I thought it was a perfect gift. For me, he got my brown boots fixed! They used to be my mom's boots, and I love them, but months ago the right boot started to come apart a little and I couldn't wear them. So, I'm excited to be able to wear them again! I had been procrastinating taking them to a cobbler for too long. Yay! It was a romantic evening, and I love my hunny bunny sooooo much!
